Born in 1880 in Munchengladbach, Joseph Pilates first developed the Pilates technique in 1920 after moving to New York after the First World War. His belief was ‘It is the mind itself that builds the body’.

That is why Pilates is a total mind-body exercise routine which aims to stretch and strengthen muscles to build a more balanced and flexible body. It is not so much about what you do but how you do it. With Pilates you can create a healthier body and mind improving posture, movement and muscle tone.

It is now recognised by physiotherapists and osteopaths as an asset to rehabilitation and stabilisation.

Nina Desborough

Pilates: Nina Desborough

Born in Northampton, England, Nina trained most of her life as a dancer and was first introduced to the Pilates technique when she was 17 years old. She has travelled extensively and has been teaching Pilates for the last 8 years. She spent many years in Cyprus where she was one of the first Pilates teachers and taught in five star hotels, listing some of the world’s rich and famous as her clients. Nina has been teaching in Zürich for the last 2 and a half years, in Holmes Place, Silhouette Fitness and now focus 14. Her clients have ranged from 16 years old to 72 years old. Nina is currently training with Europe’s leading Pilates Educator, Susan Pepper of the Swissbody Pilates Academy in Geneva, to further extend her knowledge and offer even more to her clients.
