Born in 1880 in Munchengladbach, Joseph Pilates first developed the Pilates technique in 1920 after moving to New York after the First World War. His belief was ‘It is the mind itself that builds the body’.
That is why Pilates is a total mind-body exercise routine which aims to stretch and strengthen muscles to build a more balanced and flexible body. It is not so much about what you do but how you do it. With Pilates you can create a healthier body and mind improving posture, movement and muscle tone.
It is now recognised by physiotherapists and osteopaths as an asset to rehabilitation and stabilisation.
